As a product manager for Media Applications, your job will be to drive and own the consumer experience in placeshifting TV to the desktop through native and Web applications. You will work closely with product marketing, engineering, senior management, UI design, QA, beta, and third parties to define and turn requirements into software applications – native to Windows and Macintosh as well as various Web browser platforms. This position requires an ability to understand complex technical architectures, a passion for user-experience, the ability to communicate with all of the above parties, and first-hand experience in the design and launch of consumer software and Web applications.
Responsibilities:
- Be an owner and be willing to take the bull by the horns and own molding and evolving Sling products
- Be deadline focused, project managing the development lifecycle for your products to never miss a date
- Continuously improve product quality and user-experience in a highly-competitive and dynamic business environment
- Work closely with development, QA, Beta, and IT operations teams in California, New York, and Bangalore to deliver world-class, user-facing software
- Work closely with other product managers and executives to shape and guide Sling products, both existing and new
- Aggressively explore new technologies enabling Sling to maintain and advance its position as a leader in placeshifting products
- Work at multiple organizational levels and across numerous projects simultaneously, in a hands-on capacity
- Intuitively understand and evangelize our products and services
- Be a strong team leader as well as execute as an individual contributor (e.g., creating wireframes, functional specs, process/user flows, consumer documentation, etc.)
- Be proficient with MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Project
General Requirements:
- 10+ years professional experience in consumer-facing software/Internet industry
- 7+ years experience in leading product design and development for native and online consumer-oriented applications and services (ideally entertainment focused)
- Experience in rapid design and development processes
- Experience with an Agile development, XP, Scrum, or a similar methodology desirable
- Excellent analytical and communications skills, and ability to write technical documentation
- Demonstrated success in the field of product design and development
- Strong communicator with extensive experience in building and fostering stakeholder consensus throughout the project lifecycle.
- Experience in working with geographically-distributed, cross-competency software development teams
- BA/BS in related field (MA/MS/MBA preferred)
Critical Competencies:
- Deep understanding of consumer technologies, including audio/video, mobile and Internet media
- Knowledge of native (C++, .NET, WPF) and Web software (XHTML, Javascript, CSS) development technologies, streaming media, and mobile media and communications products
- Knowledge of key platform technologies including XML/REST/JSON, transport protocols, video streaming, firewall security
- Understanding of Web software development lifecycle, including release management across multiple development, testing, and production environments
- Ability to communicate effectively with developers, all levels of management, and partners – all with differing cultural and technical backgrounds
- Independent hard working individual with leadership qualities
