Q: I have an Airport Express as my wireless access point at home. Will I be able to connect my Slingbox? A: Unfortunately, the Airport Express is just a wireless router without any extra Ethernet ports that can be used to connect your Slingbox to your home network. Apple discusses this limitation of the Airport Express in the Airport Express FAQ knowledge base article. The best way to work around the situation is to upgrade your router to one that has built in local area network Ethernet ports like an Apple Airport Extreme or other wired or wireless routers offered by Linksys, Belkin or Netgear. One advantage to doing this is that you can then use your Airport Express as a wireless bridge to help connect your Slingbox to your network if your internet connection is far away from your Slingbox while still using it to stream AirTunes.
Alternatively, you can connect your Slingbox to your Airport Express using a wireless bridge. More information on recommended routers and bridges can be found here. Q: Why hasn’t Sling Media come up with a plan for Airport Express customers knowing full well the number of Mac users that use Airport Express as their sole way of delivering a wireless connection in the home? A: Unfortunately the Slingbox requires a hard-wired connection to the broadband source which cannot be achieved with an Airport Express access point. Apple has more information about this limitation of the Airport Express in this Apple Knowledge Base Article: Airport Express Frequently Asked Questions.
